Gigi merupakan salah satu aspek identifikasi primer dalam Disaster Victim Identification. Dalam manuskrip yang dipublikasikan di Australian Journal of Forensic Sciences (Scopus Q3), penulis menjabarkan proses identifikasi dental yang dilakukan dalam identifikasi korban Palu.

Proses fotografi rongga mulut korban yang mengikuti standar American Board of Forensic Odontologist.

Proses identifikasi tersebut di latar belakangi masalah tidak tersedianya data Ante Mortem dikarenakan gempa dan tsunami meleburkan bangunan-bangunan kesehatan yang vital. Tidak adanya data tersebut menyebabkan forensik odontologis harus melakukan proses identifikasi yang disebut “Dental Profiling“. Proses identifikasi ini berbeda dengan proses identifikasi “Dental Comparison“, dalam “Dental Profiling” data yang dibutuhkan untuk membantu menutup jarak pencarian data Ante Mortem melalui informasi dental Post Mortem dikumpulkan, melalui proses pengisian form post-mortem dental Interpol, dan perhitungan estimasi usia.
