The Dentistry Study Program (PSKG) Faculty of Medicine (FK) Diponegoro University (Undip) was established in 2016 under the auspices of the Undip Faculty of Medicine, located in the Diponegoro University campus area of Tembalang. PSKG was opened in conjunction with the Pharmacy Study Program. The history of the establishment of the dental study program is very unique and very long. In 1975 the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, trained two dentists as Oral Surgery Specialists through specialist education, one dentist was trained in the surgical department and one dentist in the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) section. Then in 1979, the surgical department educated one dentist who was an Oral Surgery Specialist (SpBM) the last graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University because the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Permen Ristekdikti) stated that those who were entitled to educate dentistry specialists were faculty of Dentistry.
The first review of the establishment of the Faculty of Dentistry, Diponegoro University was carried out in 1986 by drg. M. Tjenol, drg. Siti Chumaeroh, drg. Koeswartono and Prof. Oedijani went through a review to the Trisakti FKG and Moestomo FKG. Through this review, in 1990 when the Chancellor of Diponegoro University was held by Prof. dr. Moeljono S Trastotenojo (late), asked the dental and oral department of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Diponegoro to propose the establishment of a faculty of dentistry. At that time the proposal for the establishment of the Faculty of Dentistry, Diponegoro University had been submitted to Dikti along with the proposal for the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Jember, but unfortunately it did not work because Diponegoro University, which is located in Semarang, is close to Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, even though we have a medical faculty while the University of Jember only has a faculty of agriculture.
Starting in 1993, the dental and oral department of the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University received the trust of the Faculty of Dentistry, Gadjah Mada University to educate participants in the Professional Dental Specialist Education (PPDGS) Oral Surgery (BM) Gadjah Mada University at the last level to work on major cases of oral surgery in Indonesia. Central General Hospital (RSUP) dr Kariadi with a tripartite agreement between Gadjah Mada University, Diponegoro University and Dr Kariadi Central General Hospital. At that time, dr Kariadi Central General Hospital had three specialists in oral surgery (two with Ministry of Health status and one with Faculty of Medicine at Diponegoro University) tasked with educating, guiding, testing and assessing, dental and oral staff who assisted in reading journals, and case reports of minor oral surgery. However, the collaboration stopped in 1998. Then in 2007, the dental and oral department of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Diponegoro collaborated with the University of Indonesia to educate participants in the Specialist Dental Professional Education (PPDGS) Oral Surgery (BM).
In 2004 when the chancellor was held by Prof. Ir. Eko Budiharjo (late), the dental and oral department of the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, was asked to propose the establishment of a study program in dentistry. We made a proposal according to the standards for establishing a dental study program issued by the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI), it turned out that the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine had not approved it because it was still burdened by the establishment of the Psychology Study Program and the Nutrition Study Program. In the next period of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the submission of a proposal for the establishment of the Dentistry Study Program is approved, and with a decree of the Senate of the Faculty of Medicine, the application is continued to the Rector level. However, the new Chancellor at the University Senate did not agree to continue sending the proposal to Dikti.
In 2006 the Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) planned to establish a dental study program, so considering that there was no dental study program in Central Java, the dental and oral department informally reported to the Dean that our proposal was requested by the Sultan Agung Islamic University to be submitted to the Council. Indonesian Medicine and permission to include our name in the establishment. Finally, Sultan Agung Islamic University Semarang succeeded in establishing a dental faculty in 2008.
In 2012 when the Chancellor of Diponegoro University was held by Prof. Dr. Sudharto Hadi, Department of Dentistry and Mouth was asked to make a proposal for the establishment of a dental study program and submitted it to the university through the Senate of the Faculty of Medicine. However, God has not permitted it, because in 2011 a Circular Letter of the Directorate General of Higher Education was issued for a moratorium on the establishment of medical and dental study programs. The circular letter of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number 2030/E/T/2011 is in response to a letter from the Indonesian Medical Council requesting Dikti to temporarily suspend the establishment of medical and dental study programs because the Indonesian Medical Council
